Those familiar with the music industry often have an empirical judgment: albums polished too quickly tend to be rough, but when the cycle is stretched indefinitely, the initial tension and discernment can easily dissipate. This pattern holds true for A$AP Rocky as well. Against the backdrop of an extremely fast-paced update rhythm, especially with the dense emergence of new talents in the hip-hop scene in recent years, his presence inevitably shows a certain “periodic fatigue,” even hinting at signs of being marginalized by the times.
Returning to the album itself, compared to his previous ambition to actively break paradigms, this work clearly adopts a more restrained posture. The so-called stylistic fusion and innovation remain largely superficial collages, lacking structural progression, which does not align with his current capabilities. While the arrangements are not dull, the overall lack of memorable elements keeps the album within the range of “effective but mediocre.” The coherence in narrative and auditory experience noticeably loosens in the latter half of the album, showing a tendency toward fragmentation. The performances of the featured artists are uneven, while A$AP himself remains stable in vocal control, rhythm mastery, and overall production quality, maintaining his consistent foundation. However, the issue lies in the fact that this album almost entirely relies on these “expected capabilities” for support, lacking further breakthroughs and persuasive power.
